"I have been coming to Catalonia Playa Maroma for the past four years, and my most recent stay was in June 2026. Unfortunately, I can honestly say that things have changed for the worse. One of the main reasons I chose Catalonia was because of the little details that made the resort special: the beautiful beach, the palm trees, the natural jungle atmosphere, and the wildlife you encounter during your morning walks. This year, however, I noticed several disappointing changes. The Maloo juice bar by the beach is gone, the coconut cookies that used to be served every evening have disappeared, and the cute little food trucks are no longer there. Instead, there seems to be a much greater focus on upselling. Staff members approach guests multiple times a day to promote professional photos, massages, tours, and other paid services. There is also constant pressure to join the exclusive membership program, with guests being targeted individually. It almost feels as though every potential member is assigned to a concierge whose job is to encourage enrollment. I always appreciated Catalonia because it was away from the Hotel Zone and offered a more relaxed experience without the aggressive sales tactics commonly found at other resorts. Sadly, that no longer seems to be the case. Even the wine selection has changed. The resort used to serve an excellent house wine, but it"
