I have been to "all-inclusives" as well as just boutique hotels. I understand both benefits.
I won't come back here. $10 bottles of water, overpriced food. I was nickel and dimed for everything. The mini fridge was stuffed so full of $5-$20 drinks that we just took their stuff out and put it back at the end of the week.
The shower curtain fell down on the first day, (they promptly fixed it). The chairs in the room were so uncomfortable that they literally could not be used for more than a few minutes.
There was a "do not disturb" sign was a couple of yarn knots on a string, that everyone ignored. One day the bartender came knocking because the $20 I paid with had a teeny tiny ink mark on it. The other days we were disturbed by a woman checking to see if the art work on the walls was still there.
The spa was good, the food was good, (service sucks), and the pools were great.
I won't stay here again.
All n all, I'd say for the money, go to "Dreams" or "Secrets".
It's a couple hundred more, but it'll be cheaper on the back end.
It was just weird.

Beautifully situated on the water's edge, with relatively close proximity to the airport and town (centro). Loved the waterfront restaurants, the attentive staff, room accommodations, and on-site dive shop. Oh, and the sunsets are spectacular!
