The highlight would be the private onsen on the rooftop where we sat watching the sunrise at 6.30am while enjoying the warmth of the onsen. "Absolutely gorgeous property. Not too difficult or expensive to access via a bus from the Odawara shinkansen station. The rooms are huge, there are a million places to sit and relax, the hot tubs are amazing and fill pretty quickly, the public bath is spectacularly peaceful and gorgeous and is also pretty big. The dining options were plentiful too."

"Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU delivered exactly the kind of “only-in-Japan” immersion we were hoping for—arriving to find yukata waiting in the room, then wearing them to both dinner and breakfast made the whole ryokan experience feel authentic and fun. The entire property has a spa-like calm: steam rising from the open-air onsen, pine trees framing every window, and soft koto music in the halls. Staff were gracious to the last detail, guiding us through the kaiseki meal and making sure even our brief one-night stay ran smoothly. My only real regret is that we couldn’t stay longer; TEN-YU is the kind of place where you instantly relax and wish you’d booked another day just to soak, stroll, and repeat. "
