There are 2 Hyatt’s close by. One more on the beech and the other is not. Photos make it hard to tell difference. The one we were on was above the shopping mall on main pedestrian thrufare and without dining etc. Has a nice large pool deck. Playa del Carmen has become a night time party hub and shopping place. If that is what you want you will enjoy and if not don’t bother visiting.

Having stayed at this property 8 years ago during which time it was called the Thompson, it has declined somewhat and its starting to look and feel dated and a little tired considering its high cost. We loved its central location, hence why we returned and this time we stayed in the best suite, which was very spacious and comfortable but a little noisy, understandably due to its location. Fun experience

This property is right downtown - and is loud at night due to the nightclubs. Music at the pool doesn’t appeal to Americans (local music) and is very loud-had to leave the pool one day and didn’t not return other days. Also they allow smoking at the pool. The plumbing system is poor - toilets not very operational. Nice staff.

Soraya and Pablo went above and beyond to helo my daughter and i with a safe check out. The staff treated ua like family and helped ua wirh a transport mix up. I was in distress becausey tranaport was unsure of when to pick up. Soraya called the transport company and she made sure we made our ride in time. Pablo rode his bike tonour pixk dedrimation to tell is about a mix up. They truly do care for customers and it shows. Thank you so much

Although the room was clean and comfortable. It lacked Hyatt standards. It was hot in the room, there was 0 privacy in the bathroom due to the design, expect the yelling at 2 or 3 am may come from nearby clubs and the main elevator didn't work which forced us to walk further to use one. Otherwise, staff very nice food excellent.

In general the employees provided amazing service once we were there. My complaint is to the management. I reserved my room 2 months prior to my arrival. I had reserved on the Beach House with ocean view, they notified me the day before the Beach House was under construction and they had to change rooms. They didn’t charge me for valet and the rest of the fees to make up but I didn’t get what I wanted, and yes there is a lot of noise around the Downtown House.

The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of the main street, surrounded by restaurants and bars, making it easy to walk to various attractions. The rooms are spacious, nice, and clean. However, the beach is quite a distance from the hotel. It's not a straight walk; you need to go a few blocks to the right from the hotel and then a couple of blocks down. Essentially, the beach bungalows are separate from this hotel. If you’re specifically looking for a beach vacation, this hotel might not be the best choice for you, as the beach in this area isn't very appealing. On a positive note, the rooftop pool is quite impressive.

Not a Hyatt quality property. Needs massive updating since it was acquired from Thompson. All the tile in the Downtown House elevators was cracked and broken, just distressed and unsafe. JuanJo, Alex and Javy were really nice, awesome dudes. The resort fee is a joke, $34 a day and you get two bottles of water per day (go across to the Oxford and buy the same water for 30 pesos), but other than Sunday, there was no entertainment, no DJ (again DJ’s were suppose to be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The pool doesn’t close which is nice for a late swim, but this is a 5/10 property.

People that work at both adult only building on 5th Ave and at the Beach House are very helpful and accommodating. There was a miscommunication when I booked via Expedia, and my daughter and I found ourselves at the adult only building, arriving late at night. Staff were able to send us to the family building right away. Food is great at adult only building (we had a late supper upon arrival, very yummy). At the Beach House: breakfast is amazing, dinner did not impress - too fancy and different. Very big, clean, modern rooms. Lots of bottled water provided, excellent bathrooms. It can be noisy until about midnight as surrounding hotels party, but that's true for every hotel close to 5th avenue. Hotel beach is small but nice, and we walked a couple of minutes to public beach nearby, where entrance to the water is more even, with fewer rocks. Loved our stay!

Hyatt recently rebranded this property in December of 2024, so those returning to PDC might remember this as the Thompson. If you reserve the downtown location, it is literally in the middle of everything. The beach house is about 2 blocks away. Regardless of which property you reserve, you have access to both. The beach house is right on the beach. Both locations have pools and restaurants. The downtown location is adults only. The pool at the downtown location is stunning. It's an infinity pool that runs the length of the hotel, has a swim-up bar, and plenty of loungers/seating and cabana type rooms. The pool at the beach house is smaller, but also has loungers and cabanas. The staff at both locations are simply amazing and attentive. If you look closely, the downtown location does need a little maintenance and upkeep, but that is likely on its way with the rebranding. Regardless, I had not known about this property before and I will definitely be back. It's the best of both worlds being able to get a downtown vibe and beach house all at the same time.

My phone disappeared from my room i left it charging when i came back it was gone and i called the front desk and they didn't do anything about it on the deposit of $5000 that they changed me wich is fine they do it everywhere but they told me that they would keeb $1500 and they only gave back $3000 they didn't say why very disappointed with my stay
