"If you are a non-smoker, do yourself a favour and skip this place. The hotel uses central air conditioning and the rooms on the non-smoking floor (level 7) smell musky with a stale cigarette stench. We had 3 rooms in my group and all the rooms were the same even when we changed rooms. In addition, most of the service staff were non-Japanese, they could not communicate well and did not appear to be well trained and quite rude. "Our hotel was very nice. Location was stunning, lake view is amazing. Our room with private onsen was beautiful. ( ha ha it took us til the last day to figure out there was a tap to add cool water to cool it down…. It was 50°C) but no matter as the public onsen was fantastic especially the rooftop one that overlooked the gorgeous lake. Simply amazing, relaxing, perfect. My biggest problem with all Japanese onsen is the array of lovely lotions and potions that I couldn’t decipher what they were for, I just guessed. Overall wonderful property. "Nice 5 star hotel. The service and staff is top notch. The views are spectacular. Great place to retreat to and relax. We stayed here for 1 night in our trip through Hokkaido.
My only issue was at check in. We were required to make the dinner reservations and meal selection at the front desk. And not everything we wanted was available to us. So it was very awkward experience in my opinion. I don’t know if I made a mistake not reserving the restaurants in advance but it is hard to know what you want for dinner up to 7 months in advance. Maybe it was just better to order room service. "
