Mexico and Central America Cheap Vacations

Our stay at The Westin Cancun Resort & Spa was honestly horrible. The Mexican staff were nice and friendly, but the service, communication, and quality were far below what we expected. We booked mainly based on the website photos, which looked like they were taken right after renovation. The actual property looked old, worn, and nothing like the photos. We chose our room for the ocean view, only to find extremely dirty windows, a worn mattress, and an AC making an unbearable motor noise all night. They fixed the AC, but did nothing about the mattress or windows. We asked to change rooms and were charged extra. We rented a scooter and were told we could park it indoors or outdoors. Five days later, it was gone. The hotel had moved it without notifying us, despite security recording every vehicle and room number. Terrible communication. We asked reception for an HDMI cable to connect our laptop to the TV. They asked for a $45 USD deposit. A deposit is understandable, but $45 seems excessive. On our last day, we ate at Arena Sports Bar. The food was poor and extremely overpriced. We sat outside in swimsuits, and a waiter specifically told me to put on a shirt, while other guests nearby in swimsuits were not told anything. If there is a dress code, it should apply equally. Overall, very disappointing. We expected the Westin/Marriott standard shown online and got something completely different. We would not return.
