The Bosun's Chair

10/10 Excellent

"I don’t normally like to stay in pubs (noise, revelry, smells etc) but previous reviews suggested The Bosun’s Chair and they were right. Most reviews highlight ‘friendly staff’ but here they really went out of their way to be accommodating. The young lady who checked me in, the barman who politely offered me a drink and the owner who looked after me at breakfast. The property was old but I was very pleasantly surprised to find my (single) bedroom was well decorated and in great condition. Bed linen was cotton, the pillows were a perfect size and filled with down and the bed was comfortable. As the weather was warm so was the room, but the window opened and after the kitchen extraction unit had been turned off it was comparatively quiet with just the gentle hum of the electric fan. Some guests had to leave very early and could have been quieter but that’s hotels for you. Breakfast was a revelation and definitely upmarket with Greek yoghurt, granola and fruit and a variety of hot, healthy, dishes including the traditional full English. Service was attentive and even the toast was high quality bread. I had been slightly surprised by the price, having recently experienced larger hotels charging less but I don’t begrudge the owners a penny. The reality was way above expectation and everything had clearly been well thought through. Highly recommended. Thank you."

"We had a great stay here. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, our room was perfectly adequate for us and our young puppy to use as a base while we explored the New Forest. We will def be back! Martyn, Sarah, Rosie and Guinness the dog"

"Never stay here in the summer! A lovely hotel with a great spa but sadly the staff were not interested. Our room (6) was boiling hot, far hotter than 2 other hotel rooms we have slept in over this May 26 heatwave. When we raised this at check in and explained that we would not be able to sleep in the room we were given a spare fan that simply moved the hot are around. The whole upper corridor of the hotel is oppressive and our room was swealtering all night. No one checked on us or offered to help and when we handed in our key this morning no one bothered to ask if we’d had a good stay. Sadly we won’t be back."
