"The room was clean and it is basically like a big tent. It was raining and windy the two nights we were there and it was really loud with the sound of rain hitting the cover and material flapping in the wind. Everything inside felt damp including the sofa. The yurts are built on a rural residential area and there is nothing within walking distance. There is a very very distant view of the ocean if you stand on the property in the right spot. There is no running water inside the Yurt. It has a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, toaster and cooking utensils but no sink. The bathroom and shower is in a separate building a short walk away. The drive from the Yurt to the Volcano National park is an hour and 10 mins away. The advertisement says it is an 8 min drive. The internet wasn't working but it was not a big deal and we purchased a roaming package instead. We are used to camping and roughing it a bit but this yurt fell short of our expectations. "
Ohana house Nature Retreat that is family and pet friendly.
4/10 Poor
"I'm going to be extremely honest. There were things I wanted to let slide but decided shouldn't.Upon arrival we were greeted by Jen who was so drunk she could barely stand couldn't remember where she put our key or how to let us in the house. There was stuff that should have been done but wasn't, the fridge wasn't started and towels were just left in a garbage bag and bottles from drinking were scattered about. In addition to the stove being propane the fridge is also run by propane and because it hadn't been started previously we had to learn how to start it, with some help from Jen. It turned off several times during our stay, even without the propane running out. The tanks used to run all the things are just 20lb tanks like you'd use for a gas grill rather than big ones that should be used to run a house. Only 4 solar panels to run entire house and warnings about electricity usage. We didn't run out, but we did make sure to conserve. Water is not potable. At first we thought this was what offgrid living in HI is like but we stayed in another offgrid home in HI and it was nothing like this. ona storm hit while we were there. The owner should have been responsible and told us the house was not able to handle the storm and had us leave on Thursday before the storm hit. Instead we found out on our own how ill equipped the house was. There was a leak in the ceiling, dripped onto the bed 1st day. Then the rain poured through windows and puddled and dripped throughout home. "

Myra's Blue Hawaii House
10/10 Excellent
"We had a lovely stay at Myra's blue house. The house was very comfortable. Lovely kitchen that was well stocked. Comfortable rooms. It is actually about an hour to the main visitor center at the National Park. Ocean View had convenient stores, gas, and restaurants. We enjoyed the thai food and grilled local steaks one night."
Pool, Japanese Pagoda & Gardens, Gorgeous Ocean Vi
8/10 Good
"Nice home with beautiful views. Very nice glassed-in lanai with many sliding doors. Pool was nice, but solar heated so was often cold due to the weather. It can be windy in this area, and a long drive to most places. Very quiet and safe neighborhood. About a 20 minute drive to beautiful Punalu’u beach, an hour to Volcano park, 1.5 hours to Hilo.Host was very responsive to messages, and even sent over dishtabs when we were running short. Overall a good experience, just be prepared to do a lot of driving and stock up on groceries beforehand."
Sunrise Sanctuary, Spacious, Beautiful, Tranquil Living, Green Sands Beach
10/10 Excellent
"The host met me and even offered to help me carry things to my space. It was a very peaceful natural environment, which was just what I needed. Beautiful landscaping."
"Ocean was visible.
Bathroom is in separate building.
Walls are not animal hide but vinyl!
Bring drinking water with you, what is available is rain catch with vinyl particles in."
"Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Very pleasant when showing us the cottage and grounds. They were easy to communicate with and responsive. The cottage was very clean, spacious and well equipped. The setting is pleasant with a view to the south from the lanai."
"My family and I loved our stay! Host was very communicative, the property was clean and well taken care of. Good location between things to do on the island. My only suggestion would be to bring ear plugs for the chickens at night . We would 100% stay here again."
