Aside from some of America’s most expensive real estate, this enclave of Silicon Valley is also home to a world-class Japanese garden and center for the arts.

Whether entertainment means watching a performance, touring a garden or embarking on a wine tasting, Saratoga delivers on your definition of fun. Find the city in Santa Clara County, California, just west of San Jose. Although it is consistently ranked among the wealthiest zip codes in the country, Saratoga is known for its small-town atmosphere and welcoming vibe.

Transport yourself to Japan in Hakone Gardens. The 100-year-old traditional Japanese garden is one of the Western Hemisphere’s oldest. Take a docent-led tour through the gardens or enjoy an authentic tea ceremony in the tatami mat room. Explore the Zen garden, walk around the pond and fountains and relax in the bamboo garden. Don’t miss the Cultural Exchange Center, which reproduces a 19th-century Kyoto tea merchant's shop and home.

Discover Saratoga’s 15 town parks. In Kevin Moran Park, the largest, toss bocce balls or relax in the meditation garden. Play a game of soccer or baseball in Congress Springs Park. Pitch horseshoes or cook on the barbecue grills in Azule Park.

World-class cultural attractions and stunning natural beauty converge at Montalvo Arts Center. Explore the estate’s 175 acres (70 hectares), which feature hiking trails, landscaped gardens, marble sculptures and rustic woodlands. The Italianate 19-room villa now hosts weddings and other events. See concerts in the Carriage House Theatre, Historic Villa and Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre. Check out the art exhibits of the Project Space Gallery and Art on the Grounds.

Indulge in a memorable day at the Mountain Winery. The winery became famous when actor Orson Welles uttered its slogan, “We will sell no wine before its time,” in television commercials from 1978 to 1981. Today, it is frequented more as a concert venue. A variety of popular musicians perform throughout the year.

Saratoga is a great place to enjoy California’s sunshine. Relax downtown under the Memorial Arch or savor a wine tasting at the Savannah–Chanelle Vineyards. Enjoy the picturesque layout and friendly atmosphere.

I always have enjoyed Saratoga inn it's just under a long haul construction. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the construction workers do a very good job trying to do their best with the noise.
