The Clarendon Hotel - Blackheath

2/10 Terrible

"What started as a positive stay quickly became one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. On arrival, the hotel looked clean and welcoming, and our room was ready an hour before the 2pm check-in time. Everything seemed great. We left for a concert just before 3pm (confirmed by a mirror selfie we took before leaving). During the concert, I started receiving bank notifications showing transactions at stores I had never visited. I immediately blocked my cards, and thankfully further attempts were declined. The problem is that my wallet was not with me - it was left in my hotel room. I had deliberately only taken my driving licence and one card to the concert. When we returned, my wallet was gone. It contained around £70 cash, bank cards, travel cards and ID from my home country. I am convinced someone entered our room while we were out. Items had been moved, and I know the door was properly closed when we left. The room used a physical key, there was no safe in the room, and the only storage option was at reception. I reported everything immediately. The night staff could do little, and the duty manager offered no real solution beyond a one-hour late checkout. I filed a police report straight away. What made this even worse was the lack of security. There were no hallway cameras, only reception CCTV, and the room could not be secured from the inside. I was travelling with my deaf sister, which made the situation even more frightening. We ended up barricadingthe door"

"I've stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions when travelling for work and historically had a positive experience. I'm sorry to report something has clearly gone wrong. Most recently the property was not clean and there was no housekeeping during my stay. I don't think both these criticisms are unreasonable given the room rate charged. I think I'll book elsewhere in future."

"We rented this for 2 months when we really needed somewhere to stay. It was clean and well located and we enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to anyone needing a good value place to stay close to London Bridge (1 short train) or looking to explore the lovely queens road and Nunhead area. Kayode was helpful with everything we needed. Thanks"
