The Ueno neighborhood is largely centered on venerable Ueno Station and the nearby Ueno Park, Zoo, and Shinobazu Pond. As one of Japan’s oldest train stations, the sense of history and tradition is palpable. This can not only be felt in the station itself, but throughout the restaurants, shops, and museums which make Ueno a highlight of Tokyo’s Shita-matchi area.

Ueno Zoo, situated in Ueno Park, has animal displays which appeal to all ages – including pandas! Ueno Park is also home to 10 separate museums, presenting notable works of art on permanent display or as part of travelling collections from other world-famous museums. The Tokyo National Museum in particular has an excellent collection of both Japanese and Western pieces.
