Fantastic traditional feel onsen hotel, with both public and private onsen baths, comfortable western rooms, public spaces and amenities (robes, refreshments, late night complimentary ramen, etc. Near scenic river run , quaint shops and restaurants, shrines, temples and bamboo groves, all within walking distance. Amazing breakfast buffet, well worth the upgrade.

Wonderful stay at Ryokan Kikuya. It's picturesque, with the stream running through it. Impeccable service, attentive yet discreet. Situated at the heart of Shuzenji Onsen town, one can go on short or long walks with interesting sites to visit.

A fantastic getaway. A trip down to Izu peninsula is a common adventure for most in the Tokyo area, however the choice between towns isn’t always clear. This property takes away any concern. You can spend the entire trip in the luxury of the hotel or venture out to see the small city of Ito. A rich history of European visitors and access to the mountains within 5 minutes drive. Very clean room and attentive staff. We enjoyed a half board each day and were met with an exquisite multitude of Japanese traditional foods and delicacies. The surrounding town is quiet, and uber/taxi is available for travel. This is an amazing experience to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, reset, and unwind. Our favorite part would have to be the onsen.

One of the most incredible stays of my life. The resort is beautiful with lots of onsens. The staff were very sweet and professional. They were very accommodating to upgrade my room for my honeymoon. The breakfast and dinner is soooo delicious. Highly recommend

What a gem! We stayed at Ishinoya after our 4 days of non-stop walking and touring Tokyo and before another 3 manic days of touring Kyoto. It was such a needed reprieve! I wish we could have stayed one more night before heading home. We booked the room with a private tub, but I tried the public bath very early one morning when it was empty. It was just pure bliss! You do have to reserve dinner/breakfast in advanced. We're lucky there was one spot left for breakfast. I would have wanted to do...

The in room open air spa was excellent! The public spa feels not as hot tho. But the water quality is excellent

Resort with the history, modern amenities, and amazing onsens and spa.

Maybe the best hotel experience I've ever had. Room was amazing, with an onsen overlooking the sea. Shared onsens also available at the property were fantastic and provided a moonlit soak in a secluded grove. The staff was the picture of hospitality - warm, accommodating, and endlessly helpful. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional. Will be back for sure.

Beautiful, charming and peaceful onsen stay. We enjoyed delicious authentic meals and truly unique onsen facilities. Wonderful hospitality, you feel like you have stepped back in time. Perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing and authentic cultural ryokan in Japan.

Can’t say enough good about the staff. This place was such a fun experience. We did three nights and maybe we should have done just two only because of the futons on the floor and we’re not as young as we use to be. Also, if I had one minor suggestion it would be for them to have a means to get coffee on site. I totally get it’s an experience and they have tea but for us coffee drinkers.. we gotta have it! Lol

Traditional high end old school ryokan.

Having stayed in a plethora of ryokan over many years in Japan, this is one of the best experiences I've had so far. Wonderful staff, excellent food and character galore. I'll be going back.

This is place is the perfect getaway to relax. Although you need to take a bus, this is place is easy to find. If in doubt English speaking staff is available at the tourist information in Shuzenji station. This ryokan offers 4 type of onsen bath of which three can be enjoyed privately at no extra costs.
