What a memorable experience! Was there for 2 nights to cap off a Japan trip; the staff were all very attentive, food was delicious, the grounds were gorgeous, and the in-room amenities went above and beyond.

Very clean room and attentive staff. We enjoyed a half board each day and were met with an exquisite multitude of Japanese traditional foods and delicacies. The surrounding town is quiet, and uber/taxi is available for travel. This is an amazing experience to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, reset, and unwind. Our favorite part would have to be the onsen.

We loved our stay! Although it's a little bit outside of the town, it was very peaceful and relaxing. The kaiseki dinner was a highlight! And the staff was amazing! They let us into our villa early since it was ready. Definitely worth it!

Room and the attached private outdoor onsen were excellent. Breakfast also worthwhile. Only downside is that there are limited dining options nearby and dinner at the onsen is expensive (25000 yen/person)

The lovely little Spa was in a quiet sleepy area with a few shops on the main road. The room was lovely and well equipped with all the usual amenities that you need and the outside garden was lovely and relaxing to view. The highlight of the stay was always mealtime and the service and attention of the staff was second to none they were all attentive and very helpful explaining the dishes and best way to eat some of the courses but Katatako was really great and deserves a special shout out for his service and thoughtful manner which was appreciated by us both.

This was an amazing stay! The onsen was nice and relaxing and the breakfast was so delicious! We did forget to book dinner ahead so don't be like us or you may miss out - they need a 3 day notice in advance. The shower water was warm as well, we had no issues with it. Hospitality was also wonderful. There are good places to eat in the town about a 10 minute walk away. I recommend this place highly.

Oni no sumika is a beautiful ryokan tucked away in Shuzenji. The staff are all extremely kind and accommodating (they do not speak English, so google translator is a must if you’re foreign and they are quick to use it) The traditional breakfast was great, with many small dishes that leave you satisfied but not full to start your day. If I am in shuzenji again I will be staying here.

The staff are so nice and helpful. There is private onsen in room and restaurant just at the corner. In room drinks for free and spacious, perfect location for recharge and away from city. The Shizenji and bamboo forest path are just 10 mins walk as well. Highly recommended and will come back again definitely!

For me, this was a piece of pure indulgence. It was a calm place, somewhere to relax and recharge. The breakfasts were exquisite. No dinner on offer during my stay (2nights) but the recommended restaurant (sushi restaurant) was very special. The town was quiet and very calm and if you're prepared to walk a little (taxi or bus it if not), there are great views of Mt Fuji San to be had. Highly recommended.

I was thrilled to stay at this property, food was fantastic and the room was utterly wonderful. However at 1.30 am the fire alarms started going, I wasn’t able to get hold of any one at the hotel until 2am , once we did it took about 30 mins to dismantle the alarms ( it wasn’t just my room) When I checked out the following morning I was firstly surprised they didn’t offer to credit the nights bar tab (59 CAD) nor was there any form of apology The other couple who experienced the same trouble (unrelated party) spoke Japanese , they too were horrified to receive the same treatment Overall poor

The property was heaven on earth. Beautiful serene place to be. The onsen town itself always also beautiful to walk around and get a coffee, etc. The breakfast and special dinner at the hotelwas a spectacular work of art multi course Japanese feast. Highly recommend. Having our own mineral onsen in our room was also a highlight. Love this place.

An amazing spot with lovely private hot spring onsen in a garden setting. Rooms were beautiful, but … when we walked in we could smell the mustiness and you could see traces of mould on the one wall. Airing out didn’t help. We were there only one night and it was full so we just stayed. We spent a lot of time in the meals were incredible - both dinner and breakfast and worth it to add on.

The staff at this ryokan were incredibly kind and welcoming, the amenities were wonderful, and the traditional food was truly excellent. Unfortunately, the condition of the room completely overshadowed these highlights. As soon as we entered, we were hit with a heavy, overpowering scent of mildew making it quite uncomfortable to breathe. Upon closer inspection, we found visible mold growing on the walls. For the price of a ryokan experience, proper upkeep and a mold-free environment should be a bare minimum. I hope management addresses these health hazards, as the wonderful staff and culinary team deserve a building that matches their level of care.

Our stay at Oninosumika Ryokan was amazing. Our particular room/ryokan was just as photographed. It was spacious, clean, and beautiful. Looking out into the gardens you really get a sense of how tranquil the area is and waking up hearing the birds and rain is amazing. Our private onsen was perfect, we used it multiple times a day. The staff are so kind and are very accommodating to visitors that don't speak Japanese. Their traditional Kaiseki breakfast was stunning; everything was so carefully assembled and the presentation was incredible, tasted even better. Highly recommend staying here!!

What an amazing ryokan with such supportive staff and amazing chef! Their gardens are magical and their rooms are super modern, clean and authentic to traditional ryokans. Loved our stay and loved the proximity to Shuzenji’s main village. A hidden gem in the Izu prefecture. Highly recommended!

Everything! It was like a dream, the whole place was astonishing and beautiful. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and even tho we did not speak much Japanese, they were kind and patient with us and explained the amenities for us. The room itself was amazing and the views to the pond were great, and the private onsen? Really peaceful atmosphere and very private.
