Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Health & Safety Issues at Serenade Punta Cana Beach & Spa Resort — Stay July 18–25, 2025
Dear Expedia Customer Service,
I am writing to formally raise serious health and safety concerns encountered during my recent stay at Serenade Punta Cana Beach & Spa Resort in the Dominican Republic, from July 18 to July 25, 2025, booked through Expedia.
During our stay, we observed multiple unacceptable conditions that compromised our health and safety:
1. Unsanitary Drink Handling: At the swim-up bar during a foam party on 7/23, staff were rinsing drink cups with only water and immediately reusing them instead of properly sanitizing. When we raised this with staff, they apologized and explained they were understaffed and lacked enough clean cups to meet demand.
2. Severe Mold Issue in Mediterranean Restaurant: On the evening of Monday, July 21, while dining at the Mediterranean restaurant, we observed black mold growing around the air vents directly above our table. Worse, liquid was actively dripping from the moldy vent onto our table and plates. We had to request the servers to move our table away from this contamination source.
3. Fleas in the lobby area and roaches in food.
Following these experiences, several members of our party, including myself, developed symptoms consistent with viral illness and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after returning home.
These conditions caused significant disruption.
