"Excellent hostel! First time staying in a hostel at 60 years of age. Great hostel, location right off Royal Mile, safe, quiet. Would definitely stay here again."

"The staff of the a&o are excellent. They are the reason why I gave this place a 5 star. For a hostel, it was also very clean and well taken care of. I appreciated the restaurant and bar that was on the ground level. It was a nice place to relax and wait for our room to be ready. It was minimal amenities and the front elevator was out, so we had to climb stairs or walk around to the back of the building for the other elevator. However, this was a small inconvenience. "The room was tiny, but lovely & clean. The window was fantastic, so large, looking into a courtyard so it was very quiet. The bed was a bunk, my daughter & I shared the room. There could have been more clearance between the bottom & top bunk, it was very low. Overall, I would recommend & stay again if overnighting in Edinburgh."

"The hostels walls easily accessible by train and tram. Centrally located for all Edinburg attractions. Place was clean and everyone was respectful Only issue was pretty noisy at night due to being located right over a bar. "

"Great location for exploring Edinburgh, city centre is easily walkable. Arrived late due to transport issues and host was very accommodating. Room was downstairs so no windows, but was clean and a nice place to stay in. Private bathroom wasn’t en suite which wasn’t an issue, but I feel like this could have been made clearer when booking. Other than that, great price for a very convenient location. "

"Set in a beautiful area of Haymarket, clearly signed, outdoor benches upon arrival for relaxing, garden outside behind hostel for quiet moments, large rooms with lockers and en-suite facilities. In-house bar serving multiple refreshments, kitchen facilities in basement for self catering, lounge area with large bay windows to watch the world passing.."

"well placed for staying near the beach great sized bed ( room 2) and overall a good stay disappointing at breakfast - people who arrived after me got served first and while it was a busy breakfast with everyone arriving at the same time - the kitchen couldn't cope and in fact i had to leave without breakfast ( even though i'd paid for it) as they food took more than 25 mins to come out - and i don't know how long t would have taken"
