"Wonderfully clean and beautifully maintained hotel near the lake in a quiet, secluded spot. The staff is lovely and happy to help with anything you might need. We ate at the hotel one night and went out another night. The menu at the hotel is limited and mainly designed around sets (multi-course meals) but the food was good. "Amazing property by a river. It’s a little bit of a challenge to figure out how to get around by train, but it is possible. The breakfast buffet was incredibly good and leisurely and enjoyable for us as a family traveling to meet other family that has relatives in Japan. Highly recommend this location."

Ajisai Onsen Ryokan - Award Winning Private Open Air Onsen Hakone

"A wonderful traditional ryokan. Clean, with private onsens you can use twice per day (or more). Very friendly staff. Highly recommend! Tip: take a taxi from the train station, it is a 15 min walk but very uphill. Also, for fine dining you can walk 10 minutes to the Hyatt that has two nice restaurants incl. sushi. "

"Wonderful hotel tucked away with gorgeous views! Close walk to bus stop and the train, you’ll just have to prepare to walk uphill a lot lol the onsen is amazing, we used the outdoor one every night. There aren’t many people so both hubby and I had the onsen to ourselves each time! It’s such a peaceful place, it’s where we ended our Japan trip. Just know that restaurants and shops close early (like 5-7pm!) and the busses also stop around 10 so eat early. We got the executive suite, so so worth it I promise!! Oh and we absolutely loved the provided yukatas, wish we could buy them!"
