"Our stay was reasonably comfortable, except for a few small factors: 1. It’s a shame that they allow smoking in the rooms because we are non-smokers and smoke particles cannot be completely eradicated from the room even with a room humidifier and spray fragrance. So we could not be as comfortable as we normally would be had it been a non-smoking room. Top Shima River Hotel Reviews

La Vista Kusatsu Hills

10/10 Excellent

"Loved the private open air onsen in our suite. Loved the free snacks during afternoon tea and the late night ramen snack perfect after walking in the village"

B/C HOTEL KUSATSU

10/10 Excellent

"Loved this place! Super clean and convenient. Loved the Onsen in the hotel. The shuttle to Yubatake was great! This was a great place to stay, even more so if you bring your dog as they are very dog friendly!"

Urakusatsu Tou

Oyado Konoha Kyoritsu Resorts

"We had an absolutely amazing time here with my parents. I would love to come back. I’ve been to other Japanese hot springs/ryokan and this was the best one!"

Kanemidori

10/10 Excellent

"A very traditional Japanese hotel with thorough service, we had a very nice stay. Staff took care of swapping out the futon, alongside bus services to various parts of Kusatsu. The onsen was well maintained and also tattoo friendly!"

Hanaingen

10/10 Excellent

"What an amazing place this is. As soon as you check in you're given a welcome matcha tea and sweet treats. The dining area has free flavoured water and hot drinks 247 and the breakfast was so tasty. They even catered for vegetarians. The room was gorgeous. Tatami mats covered the floor with a beautiful seating area with tea and a kettle for you to use in the room. The beds were extremely comfy and the only negative I have about this place is that the duvets were so thick and fluffy. I'm just glad it wasn't really hot weather. The Onsen baths were amazing. 4 separate shapes, all supposedly offering a different dream to come true. All toiletries were supplied, as were pajamas. I can't rate this place highly enough. I felt very welcomed and cared for. I just wish I could have stayed longer."

Kishigon Ryokan

10/10 Excellent

"Extremely helpful staff. Onsen is great. Location is unbearable. I will visit again."

SHIMAONSEN TSURUYA

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel was impeccable! Super courteous staff, private open air hot spring bath. Food was outstanding! Highly recommend"
