"This is further out from Hakone than I expected but the hotel is lovely. It’s a little run down and could do with sprucing up a bit but we enjoyed our stay. The staff are very friendly and the food was lovely. Buses run regularly to attractions in the area from just outside the hotel"

If not, maybe look for a more westernized hotel instead. Just one caution, this mountain resort is up on a winding mountain road around .5-1km from bus stop "sengyoro mae".
