St Andrew's Church, Little Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. St Andrew's Church, Little Berkhamsted. Although Little Berkhamsted can trace its past back to Saxon times and perhaps beyond, Little Berkhamsteds greatest claim to fame is that it was here that William the Conqueror accepted the surrender of the City of London after the Battle of Hastings. At the time of the Domesday survey in 1086 the manor was held by Hardwin of Scales, and was rated as five hides (roughly 600 acres). A further two hides were held by Saemer, a priest; Leofeva, a widow held another two hides and Wulfric Warden held one hide, all alms of King Edward and his predecessors.

"Likely the smallest hotel room I ever stayed in. But the room size does not do just to the excellence of the room and the hotel. I booked likely the cheapest room of the hotel, so all other rooms must be larger. Still my small room felt very adequate - all the amenities were great. The bathroom was large and functional. Everything in the room just worked: the light switches were in the right places, for example. The shower was powerful. The provided toiletries like soap, shampoo were excellent. Quality is the feeling I was left with. Staff were great. Luggage store, pre-checkin, was very helpful. Hope to return to this hotel some day."
