"Staff was very friendly. The only issue is when we got to the room, my son was going to sleep on the pull out sofa, kind of got super grossed out because it wasn't made and there was several blood stains on the mattress. The housekeeper was super sweet and doubled up on sheets. Other then that we ..."

There is a lot of hype about which is the best spot for shave ice in Oahu since there are hundreds to choose from. There are 4 that stand out for different reasons. As you drive around the island...try all 4 and you can decide which suites you best. My picks: #1 Mountain Magic at Waikele Shopping Center in Waipahu. My fave is blue raspberry & Lime with vanilla ice cream and condensed milk! Super yummy. You can stand almost face to face with the lady that runs this small cart. She's all smiles and loves to have her pic taken. Grab your concoction and sit on the curb to eat it. Trust me when I say that you won't want to get in a car with these things. #2 Matsumoto's in Haleiwa. They have the best syrups. My fave is root beer flavored with vanilla ice cream. Tastes just like an old fashioned float. Very huge portions, messy but wonderful. You will see people sitting on wooden benches with the juice running all over their feet. A big commercial store front now with long lines, but the line moves fast and worth the wait. Multi generational family affair. #3 Uncle Clays House of Pure Aloha located in Aina Haina. A crafted dessert dish made of finely scraped shave ice, using fresh fruit. Small shop where everything happens behind the counter. Uncle Clay is always there to greet you. . #4 Island Snow in Kailua. Made famous because Pres Obama takes is daughters there. Just pure and simple shave ice made with rainbow syrups. Messy but hits the spot after a couple hours on the beach.
Helpful hint: make sure to have a bottle of water with you for clean up before tackling any shave ice. Your hands, feet, and face will need a rinse after visiting # 1-2-4.
