"I had a lovely stay at the Red Lion. My travel plans got changed, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and immediately put me at ease - couldn't do enough for me which is always appreciated. The rooms themselves are very cozy and comfortable - I particularly liked the abundance of bird paintings and prints as decor, they were genuinely nice surprise. The shower was a particular highlight, two different showerheads, great water pressure and some lovely complimentary shower gel and conditioner. As I was staying over a weekend, the hotel staff took the courtesy of warning about potential noise from the nearby high street, however this was a non-issue during my stay - once the window was shut, I put my head down to sleep with no issues whatsoever. I would quite gladly stay at the Red Lion again next time I'm in Basingstoke, the place has a real charm and character to it and the service was genuinely excellent."

"The property had an old musk smell that permeated through the carpet. They did not have lift access so they are not accessibility or heavy luggage friendly. They did have rails in the upstairs bathroom, but how did you get upstairs with mobility issues. My room had spiders and the tub had hair and did not look clean. Also, it was shot overnight and they do not have AC and you can hear every sound of the guests overnight. It is relatively close to the airport by twenty Uber or 40 minutes by bus, but given the other issues, I would say choose somewhere else."

"Always had good stay with village before but this time there was problem at check in as I booked through Expedia. Paid through Expedia, and only had to pay for late check out at hotel but they tried to take full stay and the extra payment. They kept saying there was issue as there was insufficient fund in my card but I had already paid for stay. They blamed Expedia for this. Already a bad start to the stay. The rooms itself are good then when it came to the next day, even though we paid for late checkout cleaning staff opened the door while we were sleeping at 11. No knock prior. Overall bad experience this time. "

"This is my second time staying here and has always been very good. It was still good, but I was disturbed alot by the neighbour next door talking incredibly loudly on his phone. Also, I would have liked to not receive an email the day before I am due to check out, asking me to check out online. I think it takes away from your experience of being away if it feels like the hotel is rushing you to check out. "
