"The traditional style of the building made for a very cool stay, the room was nice and felt spacious and the beds were comfortable to sleep on as well. I also loved the plants and neighborhood that surrounded the ryokan too. All made for a very comforting stay."

"The staff here were so friendly and helpful. They really made you feel welcomed and helped you settle in. The property is beautiful, a classic traditional Japanese style ryokan and they provide slippers and robes as well. It was a very enjoyable stay for us. Even given the 15-20minute walk from the train station, you’re surrounded by beautiful nature and architecture, so it doesn’t feel very far at all. Our room had a private onsen which was fantastic, definitely a highlight! We recommend...

"The hotel is fine but the air conditioning at public area absolutely poor, when we went out from the room, we just like go outside the hotel, you can feel it hot like sunshine. The hotel
should upgrade the system. "

Naval history comes alive at the Mikasa Memorial Ship, where you can explore Japan's only surviving pre-dreadnought battleship. Fuel up with authentic Navy curry at Yokosuka Naval Base, then wander the colorful Dobuita Street for American-influenced shops and eateries.
I love the hotel. Tsukino is an interesting and successful synthesis of traditional ryokan atmosphere with modern facilities. While my room comes with TV, fridge, western-style couch, a king sized bed, and a modern bathroom, the rest of the decoration is Japanese in style. The room also comes with a tube in the balcony. The balcony faces a very steep hill with dense foliage around 40 feet away. Thus I was able to take my baths in open air with ensured privacy. The 6th floor of the hotel...

Hakone Airu was a wonderful stay that will form part of our unforgettable trip to Japan. At first, I was hesitant to book this hotel because of the limited number of reviews. In the end, I took a chance and went a "Superior Room" with in-room bath. To be honest, not sure what the difference is between the different room types. Such a room with dinner & breakfast seemed to cost a lot more at other hotels. Not sure what else you get in other places; but I'm sure it can't get much better than...

The hotel itself was well maintained and the private open-air onsen (hot spring) in the room cannot be beat. The staff were helpful and courteous, and the dinner and breakfast menu was delightfully delicious. Overall it was a very memorable stay, unfortunately it was raining during our stay so we didn't leave the hotel to explore the surrounding area. The hotel has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing getaway albeit a bit on the pricey side. I would recommend this hotel for a...

A Truly Authentic Japanese Experience – Simply Unforgettable!
Staying at Hotel Nanpuso was like stepping into the heart of traditional Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in authentic cultural touches — the beautiful architecture, serene surroundings, and the warm hospitality.
The traditional yukata clothing provided made the experience feel even more special and immersive. The hot spring (onsen) was absolutely relaxing, and the setting was peaceful and beautifully maintained....

Very approachable for a more cultural, traditional experience. Was very easy for an American foreigner like myself to have a truly authentic experience. Staff is incredibly hospitable, helpful, patient, and capable. My first ryokan experience that I have Yusakaso to thank. Quality onsens, extraordinarily clean.

A beautiful old and authentic ryokan experience. Lovely service, staff and onsen! I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone who appreciates the Japanese culture and traditions.

I think the biggest challenge is to figure out the transportation. The hotel is about 20 minutes up-hill walk from the Hakone-Yumuto station. It is a very nice walk without luggage. When carrying luggage, I found taxi to be the best option, which costed 690 JPY. When leaving the hotel on the last day, we asked the front desk to call a taxi for us. The taxi has an extra 110 JPY fee for coming to the hotel to pick up guests. There are a few other transportation options but we did not try. The...

I live in Japan and have been to a fair few ryokans- this was by far the best one. My friend was visiting from England and she wanted to experience the ryokan culture- she was not disappointed. The staff were incredibly welcoming and pandered to our every need. There are 3 separate baths to choose from, the best being the outdoor one which boasted incredible scenic views. Everything about Yamagaso is fantastic, I can't wait to go back.

We had a wonderful stay at Yushintei. The traditional Japanese style rooms were absolutely great, spacious, comfortable, and provided an authentic experience. A major highlight was the natural hot spring spa (onsen), which was a fantastic addition to unwind after a long day of walking.
The entire hotel was exceptionally nice and clean throughout. Just keep in mind that the local shops and other eateries require a minimum 10-15 minute walk from the property.

Highly recommend for Hakone
Short walk to main food and drink area, but remote enough it feels exclusive
Amazing property
Just be familiar with separate bath times and ensure to reserve if you want to share with your spouse
