"Well priced ryokan in an excellent location only a minute or two walk from the yubatake. Ryokan and room is older but the room is large and comfortable. The indoor public bath is large and there is an outdoor public bath as well that can accommodate a few guests. Food is well presented with beautifully plated dishes and good variety. Second night dinner is a bit more special than the first night. Service is good and staff speak English. "

"The person at the front desk spoke English very well. This was one of the most unique (in a good way) properties that I stayed at. The room was spotless, and in the traitional Japanese style. It was very large and had a mini SNES with large TV. The window blinds were of the traditional so I woke up early. There is a game room with some retro games as well as a massage chair. What I liked the most about this property is that there are three semi-private onsens that can be used. They are...

"We enjoyed our three night stay very much, and we're happy that we chose this hotel. The room was a good size and fit our needs. The only complaint was the terrible pillows and fairly hard beds. The restaurant proved to be decent. My Japanese wife loved the breakfast choices and I was happy with some western basics, like great scrambled eggs, reasonable sausages terrific coffee and granola. The real treat was the outside Onsen, we chose to go when others were sleeping or dining. Easily...

"For my overnight trip to Nagano, my focus had always been to visit Togakushi Shrine for the giant cedar trees and Jigokudani Yaen Koen for the snow monkeys. This meant that I had to find lodging that was within a reasonable drive from both locations as one was west of Nagano and the other east. As I favored more of visiting Jigokudani Yaen Koen when there are lesser crowds, which meant early morning hours when the park just opens (keep in mind it takes 45 minutes to hike up to the park), I...
