"The location is just a short stroll from the iconic clam chowder at Old Fisherman’s Grotto & surrounded by many great dining options. The cinnamon toast at Jack’s Monterey was delish. There’s also a Carmel bakery downstairs, which was a convenient treat to have just steps away. The hotel lobby itself set the tone right away. It felt laid-back yet inviting, exactly the kind of atmosphere we look for when we’re on vacation. We were also able to check in early, which made our arrival smooth. Such a great bonus! They even provided scavenger hunt activities for our kids, which was such a thoughtful touch. This is truly a family-friendly hotel that makes traveling with kids feel easy & enjoyable. I’m very particular about bathrooms, beds, & overall cleanliness, especially since I have an immunocompromised child, so this is something I don’t take lightly. Portola did not disappoint. Both the bathroom & bedroom were spotless & even better than expected in person. The bed & pillows were incredibly comfortable. The A/C worked great, & having a ceiling fan was a nice bonus touch. The photos online truly don’t do this place justice. It’s even more beautiful in person. The heated pool was a hit, & the towels felt clean and luxurious. The staff were nice! There was a tiny red spider spotted on my child’s bed, but thankfully my eldest caught it right away. Aside from that small moment, everything about our stay was superb and exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!"

"The good, the views at this property are simply spectacular!!! Especially at night with the sunset. Aside from that it appears that this property might be a timeshare scenario as the property management was very vague in terms of offering any sort of information with regards to housekeeping. You have to request a day prior according to one of the housekeeping staff members we asked why our room had not been cleaned. Another thing is the water tends to flow very slowly and at times totally goes out when flushing the toilet. The staff is somewhat more attentive towards other guests and that I refer to the timeshare clientele. Other than that the breakfast is good nothing fancy free and to the point. The property is a short 15 minute walk to the pier at pismo. And within driving distance to other attractions. "

"Staff was wonderful. Room was very noisy. Do yourself a favor and book an upstairs room. Breakfast was not great, but there are plenty of places nearby to get a good meal."

"Great place! Large room great breakfast in the morning we were situated on the second floor right above the pond. It was fabulous."
