Sunny beaches, leafy streets and a relaxed small-town vibe are all good reasons to visit this charming peninsula that curves into beautiful San Diego Bay.

Coronado features great views over the open ocean on one side and San Diego’s skyline on the other. Enjoy the surf, eat at al fresco restaurants and visit the cultural attractions.

Feel the white sand between your toes at one of the fantastic local beaches. Surf at sweeping Coronado City Beach, where waves roll in from the Pacific Ocean. Look for crabs, shells and urchins in the natural tide pools and check out the beachfront Hotel del Coronado. The red-roofed towers of this Victorian building date back to 1888 and make the hotel look more like a dazzling palace than a seaside resort.

Bring children to splash around in the water at Tidelands Park, Glorietta Bay Park and Centennial Park. The beaches face back toward the mainland and feature calm waters and gentle breezes. Paddle a kayak, doze on the sand or picnic on the grass. Glorietta Bay and Tidelands both have children’s play equipment on site.

Join a Segway tour to explore the streets of the town. Stop at Glorietta Bay Inn, a boutique hotel in a stunning historic building. Visit the historic Gaslamp Quarter and admire the grand mansions in the Bayfront district. Finish the day watching a show at the old Lamb’s Players Theatre.

Ride a bicycle along the coastal bike paths to enjoy the views and fresh sea air. Take a guided tree tour through Spreckels Park with a local arborist.

Look for trinkets and fashion in the shops at Coronado Ferry Landing. Visit on designated days to buy fresh produce from the pop-up farmers market or listen to live music at an outdoor show in the evening.

Get to Coronado by driving over Coronado Bridge or catch the ferry across San Diego Bay.

Coronado might just be the perfect Southern California weekend getaway destination.

The only issue really is house keeping came so late in the day it wasn’t worth it for them to clean because we had been out the majority of the day and came back to rest before heading back out. Also their towels and sheets need to be replaced. They were pretty dingy, they’ve been well over used. ...
