What Hotel Moda lacks in aesthetic charm found in traditional Japanese ryokan, it more than makes up for in modern amenities, comfort, and level of service. The private onsen is clean and spacious and my wife and I really liked their curation of toiletries and accessories - I was particularly taken by the pajamas the hotel prepared. Small ryokan in the hills above Yufuin. Great Onsen. We stayed in the traditional Japanese room and it was very comfortable. It had a private Onsen that was incredible. The staff were friendly and helpful, and despite us not being from Japan or able to speak much Japanese, we never felt out of place or unwelcome. The breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast, amazing to see as well as eat. We only stayed 3 nights, but it was the most relaxing time of our 3 day visit.

Overall quite nice. Bed was a touch soft for my liking, but I prefer quite firm, so probably would be perfect for others.

We had an emergency with our toddler and had to go to the hospital. The staff were outstanding and helped us every step of the way. This was old school service and we were made to feel like more than just guests. We were made to feel like family. We cannot thank them enough.

I loved it! Despite not speaking much Japanese I had a great time. It was really easy to get to from Yufuin station by taxi since there’s a taxi stand right there. The only hard part is if you don’t have a car, getting to and from the station once the front desk closes is somewhat difficult. I brought food with me and snacks before arriving. The water temperature is perfect and the room I rented was beautiful!
