"Spacious unit big enough for 4 adults. The private onsen was a fantastic feature. As the hotel is close to a highway some traffic noise gets into the room. "
"This was the first time my best friend Lina and I had stayed at a ryokan, and although it was a perfect trip overall, the only difficult part was walking up the hill to the ryokan with our luggage. The staff were very kind, and the two breakfasts and two dinners, each featuring exquisite delicacies, left us in awe every time. The temperature of the hot spring water was just right and gentle. What truly moved us, however, happened after we had checked out. While we were waiting in line at the...
"This is a new type of a Japanese "Ryokan", mostly self-services. Quiet area and much cheaper than other typical "Ryokan" in the town. Yet, I enjoyed one of the private-room onsen. "
"We enjoyed the stay very much! Convenient location, staff are friendly and helpful and they speak good English. Onsen environments are nice.
We love the dogs and cats there.😍
Would be better if there are more support like amenity and small bags for us to bring towels to onsen.
Will come again for sure."
"Huge house for family to share, wish we can stay even longer to well use the house and enjoy the Aso National park more!
Great facilities like kitchen, washing machine and jacuzzi bath tub."

"If you like Cat’s and Onsen’s then this is the place for you. The onsen is nice and private for you to relax in with no worries either indoor or outdoor. All the cats are so adorable. The staff are so kind and accommodating. Want to come back soon. Highly recommend :)"
"The staff really are so friendly and helpful. Always so courteous and accommodating. The place is very well maintain and doesn't look old at all. The breakfast and dinner are both so good. I will definitely stay there again if I am going to Yufuin. Keep up the good work. There's a really very nice male staff who take good care of us and our needs. Always smiling. Great job. "
"I had an amazing time at Ryokan Yufuin Tsubaki. I booked the half-board stay at Tsubaki using Expedia and the staff at Tsubaki was in contact with me almost immediately to confirm the details and finalize the pick up time from Yufuin Station. Note that as a fan of walking, even Tsubaki's location is a bit far from the Yufuin Station so once the staff picks you up at the train station to take you back to the ryokan (around 3pm), you will likely end up spending the rest of your time at the ryokan before leaving the next morning around 10am (unless you have your own car).
I stayed in the Butterfly room which is beautiful! Tsubaki is a small little ryokan with a collection of 7 different "rooms/mini villas". My room was technically a one bedroom suite that had a direct view of Mt Yufu both on the first floor (where your living room and bedroom and toilet is located) and the "basement" floor where the bathroom (sink/mirror/dressing area) and separate private onsen bath/shower area is located. It was very sizeable and the rooms were in Japanese style (tatami mats, sliding doors, kotatsu chairs, etc) while the beds were elevated Western beds.
The food was glorious! Half-board stays means that breakfast and dinner is provided. Both were a pseudo-kaiseki style with Western influences and I was stuffed!
Highly recommend the stay!"
"We enjoyed our stay at this ryokan. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room and it was a unique experience. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. Our dinner and breakfast was served in the dining room at the precise time we specified. The dishes were so thoughtfully placed. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one!!!"
