"The staff was top notch: professional, helpful, and friendly. But the property is very old and the common areas didn’t smell too fresh. The rooms were very basic and felt like a bedroom at an old house vs a hotel room. The bathroom and shower seemed clean. There was a counter right above the toilet tank lid where the flusher was located. There wasn’t much clearance between the counter and flusher so it was very cumbersome and awkward to squeeze my finger in the gap to flush the toilet. The shower water pressure was extremely low and the water temperature constantly fluctuated between hot and cold while I was showering. I couldn’t wait to get home to have a proper shower. The location is central and convenient. The Saturday farmers market is only two blocks away and Third Street Promenade is just around the corner (although many stores were vacant and it is no longer vibrant like it used to be). It is a couple of blocks from the beach."

"Hotel is not at all as described in the photos online. We booked a “partial ocean view” and I can assure you it was anything but that. We could see the ocean from 1 window and it was a tiny sliver of it. Our view was of the street and dozens of homeless people all over. Neighborhood is sketchy at night I would not recommend leaving the hotel at all. Overall the description of this hotel and rooms is misleading. Way too overpriced for what you get. Wouldn’t recommend / wouldn’t stay again."

"At check on n asked if there was a coffee maker and steamer in room and if not could we get them. Desk guy didn’t know if the room had them. They did not. Bar service, we ordered 2 beers pool-side, they a QR code, an hour later they still hadn’t come so we had to go back to the bar and could see the order on their screen, they said noted it. Got our beers and had to pay auto gratuity for NO service. Same with coffee. This is a hi-priced hotel with terrible guest service. Everything had fees and gratuities with no service delivered. The valets were hardworking but there were not enough of them. Come on management! Not worth the price."

"Great location but very old property. No amenity selection in rooms so brig. Your own lotion, shampoo, etc. Mattress and pillows were terrible. Can’t say we will ever book here again. The adjoining coffee shop was fantastic!!"

"We had a great welcome at Hotel Casa del Mar—the entrance staff were all very nice and set a good first impression. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a bit of noise from outside, but not a deal breaker for us. One part that didn’t feel great was the restaurant experience. The front staff wasn’t very welcoming, and when I asked for a dessert menu, I was told it’s a dining restaurant and we’d need to order a full meal to sit there. Otherwise, we could sit in the lobby and order dessert. It came across a bit judgmental and honestly felt rude. Another thing that caught me off guard was the $60 per night resort fee. I didn’t notice it during booking and only realized it at check-in when reading through the amenities. It felt a bit hidden, and I can see how others might miss it and be surprised later. Amenities are nice overall, but many of them require going to their sister property, Shutters on the Beach (like bike rentals or weekend yoga). I personally expected more of these to be available on-site instead of having to go to another hotel. Overall, we had a good stay, but there were a few things here and there that were surprising, and the restaurant interaction definitely left a negative impression."
