Ryokans in Gamo District

This was a beautiful ryokan to stay. The staff are very helpful to english speaking visitors and can accommodate very well. This ryokan offers you to dine in an intimate setting so you're in a separate room with your guests/partner. Other ryokans have you sit in a restaurant style setting so you're in a large room with open tables. Our waitress and maid was super helpful and very caring for us while we stayed. Fantastic stay in this onsen style ryokan. Had a wonderful private onsen in our room, overlooking the river and the lake beyond. Can’t ask for a more perfect experience. Waking up early to soak in our private room onsen before dressing and heading down for the Japanese style breakfast included.

From Shikanoyu, it's a 5 minute walk to the cable car (called a Ropeway in Japan) that goes to the top of Mt Gozaisho. It's close to the Suzuka race course, and the flower garden Nabana no Sato. The hotel is a bit dated but the location is excellent if you want to ride on the Gozaisho Ropeway. It is right next to the Ropeway station. Moreover and since we booked our room on a Sunday that traffic to the hotel is quite bad as a lot of people were driving to the summit to take the ropeway ride. Amazing! The property offered a shuttle ride from the station. We were greeted with a cup of tea. We were also taken to our room and with assistance and given a thorough tour of the space and the services that the hotel provided. The property has a beautiful view of the lake. The room was spacious for our group. Highly recommend the meals offered for dinner and breakfast. The onsen was also clean and spacious.

I cannot recommend this place enough! It was so relaxing, beautiful, and the staff was incredible! They offer traditional and local breakfast and dinner that rivaled Michelin star restaurants! It was our first Ryokan experience but definitely will not be our last now. Such an incredible place!

Amazing property! The staff were so kind. I lost my glasses off of the balcony and the next day staff searched to find them for me! The onsen on the balcony was so wonderful! A very spacious room with nice amenities. Great view of lake Biwa. Would highly recommend!

Quick breakdown, I only had one week to book a hotel and I was looking for a true Japanese B&B. Staff was amazing and very nice. Location is 10 minutes (car ride) from JR station. When you get to the station, ask the person in the station to call for your hotel ride. DO NOT attempt to go up that hill with luggage. There is not a walkway. We had enjoyed a Kaiseki dinner here with a group in May, 2010, and wanted to come back to Kyoto and spend more time. We stayed in the Hanare (the Satsuki Cottage, a separate, traditional Japanese building) for five nights. My son and I took a trip to Japan and loved the experience. This Ryokan was one of the highlights of our trip. It is a very unique stay and you should plan your evening around it if you choose to stay. This is not like a traditional hotel, you are cared for individually. A very nice place to stay for vacation. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room is very spacious and clean. Just walk one block to the bus station and two block to the subway station. The buses are reaching to the temples and Kyoto station. No need to transfer. Very convenient.

Good location. The hotel staff is very friendly, the service is more "personalized" feels rather than the chain hotel style. Make sure you pick the rate include breakfast and dinner; the food is good and is so much cheaper if you eat similar food at the near restaurant. I am not sure the water at hot shared bath on the basement floor is coming from onsen or not, but it does help to release some stress from a day of walking. Absolutely stay here when in Kyoto. This was our favorite hotel on our trip to Japan. It is an authentic experience. Dinner and breakfast were great (though they may be tough for a picky eater). But most importantly, the staff was amazing. We have never felt more welcomed by a hotel. They became our friends. We will be back!

The place was great. Best thing was the staff. They were so nice and accommodating. I was late for my check in but the staff helped me by waiting to still serve me dinner when I got there. They were waiting out front for me and helped me out all with everything. They were the nicest people. The facilities were great too. Food was delicious. The room was lovely. The onsen was relaxing. I'm very happy with my stay there.

We were told that if we were going to splurge on something, it should be staying here. That advice couldn't have been more accurate. We loved the ryokan for it's unbelievable service, commitment to authenticity, and everything. This ryokan felt like home. You are greeted with tea upon your return from exploring the city as well as having a hot soak in your room's tub. We were there 2 nights and had dinner and breakfast in our rooms both days. Beside the leaking ceiling, the room was nice. I was upgraded and also the staffs were extremely kind and thoughtful. Gave me a welcome gift while during the stay and it was nice to see child hood snacks at the front. Decoration and the atmosphere were very nice. Over all lived my stay and would come back 20/10.
