This image is of an old shed in Sparta, North Carolina, and “Sophie” the dog. No individual has entered the shed in many years due to the overgrowth around it, and the fear of what might be lurking inside; only Sophie gets close enough to sniff out the critters inside. The reason I chose this picture to frame Appalachia is that it represents a lot of what has been left behind or forgotten, and also the unknown of Appalachia’s history. There are a number of things that could be decaying away behind that sliding door; old photographs, antique farming equipment, hand-made artifacts, etc. The unknown of what is inside this building represents the history of Appalachia that has yet to be tapped into. #appalachianechoes

"I had a wonderful four nights here. Lovely fully equipped studio apartment with plenty of room and the perfect place for a few days or a few weeks in the area. The decor and overall vibe is light, open and airy - very relaxing and welcoming. I didn't get to spend much time outside as it was a bit cold/rainy during my visit but it has a lovely little deck and other 'fresh air' amenities. I've already recommended it to the relatives I was visiting in the area for their guests. Wish I could have...

"The cabin was fantastic. It was clean and well stocked. The view was great. The bath house was clean. I only have two complaints. The bath house was up a very steep hill. That needs to be included in the description as I’ve had a knee injury and wasn’t prepared for the very steep climb about 100 yards to the bath house. And the heater didn’t work. We could get the pilot light on but it wouldn’t stay on when switching to a heating mode. The cabin is clearly new so just small things to update....

"The cabin is beautiful & set in a quiet mountain area. There is no light pollution around so it is easy to see the beautiful stars & moon for the Sky gazers. And there are neighbors near by that look to live in the area, but it was totally quiet & peaceful the whole time we stayed. We will definitely consider staying again if we are in the area "
