"This is a very authentic Japanese hotel and appeared to be mostly Japanese tourists. The dinner buffet had very loud live performance and the audience was definitely into it. There's an onsen at this hotel and a pool. The pool closes early and opens late so heads up. We didn't really pay attention to where the hotel was. It's about a 45 minute train from the Nara Park, we may have booked a closer place if we'd known, but for the experience of staying at this hotel it was pretty much worth...

The hotel has amazing history (Einstein, Japan Royal family, Vaclav Havel .. and many other dignitaries stayed in the hotel over its long history). Hotel itself by now is bit dated, but it has amazing architecture and it is very traditional with beautiful wooden panelings, great bar and garden restaurant - we liked it very much even if we think that JR (Japanese railway company, which owns the hotel currently) should invest a bit into its refit. carets are dated and airconditioning was really noisy. Location is amazing as well - just next to the Nara deer park, which is major attraction in Nara as the formal imperial city,"
