PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney

PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney

8/10 Good
"Breakfast was very good. Suite was spacious for our family of 4 with great bathroom but sofa bed was very uncomfortable. We were directly under the club lounge and we could hear chairs scraping on the floor during breakfast and evening canapés in our room. This was only really an issue as we were desperately trying to sleep off uk travel jet lag. Good location for darling harbour but views were more freeway than harbour! Club lounge offering was Ok but nothing spectacular and limited kids options for evening. Was great that you could have full buffet breakfast as well as club option. We arrived early morning from uk and couldn’t check in as room wasn’t ready which was understandable as it wasn’t guaranteed for check in but when we came back ( like zombies with kids aged 8 and 15) it was still not ready which was a bit disappointing. Would stay here against n but would probably just get 2 rooms because of poor sofa bed."

Shangri-La Sydney

Shangri-La Sydney

8/10 Good
"Beautiful stay, but concerning privacy issue I would have easily given Shangri-La 5 stars if it weren’t for two incidents involving housekeeping entering our room despite the "Do Not Disturb light being on". The first was particularly upsetting. A housekeeping supervisor entered while I was half-dressed and lying in bed. I heard the bell ring once but didn’t respond because the DND light was on, so I assumed no one would enter. To my shock, he came in and was suddenly standing in front of my bed. I initially thought it was my husband. He said he rang three times, but whether once or three times, "DND means do not enter". I reported it to the help desk. The staff member was very sweet, although her first response was, “Are you sure you didn’t call for service?” Thankfully, the manager handled it professionally. She called me, reviewed the camera footage, apologized, reassured me, and provided a $200 credit. Unfortunately, two days later, another male housekeeping staff member entered while the DND light was on, again saying he knocked three times. At that point, I was too tired to complain again. Aside from this, we loved our stay. Our suite had a beautiful harbour view, the room was always clean and well-stocked, staff were lovely, and breakfast was excellent. Without these two privacy incidents, this would have easily been 5 stars."
