Prospect Park

Prospect Park showing a park, a lake or waterhole and a pond
With many acres of rolling hills, wooded alcoves and lush gardens, this park is a great place in Brooklyn for a lazy afternoon or an outing with the family.

Located in the heart of Brooklyn, Prospect Park is one of many attractions that has made Brooklyn a highly desirable place to live. It is surrounded by the Brooklyn Museum and several restaurant districts, and is a welcome retreat from the busy city. Take a slow walk through one of the scenic walkways. Stay long enough for the romantic streetlights to come on and cast a romantic glow during your walk.

Bordered by Prospect Heights on the north, Park Slope on the west and Crown Heights on the east, Prospect Park has long been the center of a diverse gathering of families and professionals. On warm weekend days, the park is comfortably packed with people. Make a new friend or enjoy people watching.

Prospect Park also has dedicated trails and paved roads for runners and cyclists. Put on your athletic shoes and inhale some of the freshest air in Brooklyn during your morning exercise. Bring a football, baseball and glove or a hacky sack and Frisbee for some fun and games.

Walk beneath the Soldier’s Arch at Grand Army Plaza. This large public square also features an array of historic monuments, including the John F. Kennedy Monument and several statues of Civil War generals. If you have Saturday free, shop at the farmer’s market that sets up along the plaza. Buy the fresh-baked bread and preserves that locals travel from all over the city to taste.

Even though Prospect Park may feel like a wonderfully isolated oasis, it is never far from renowned cultural attractions and exquisite restaurants. The Brooklyn Museum is just to the northeast, while restaurants line Washington and Franklin avenues, also to the northeast.

To get here, take the train to Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Avenue. Extend your walk through Prospect Park into nearby Park Slope, a charming neighborhood with coffee shops and boutiques.
