While Pepper Tree Wines have vineyards spread across the country, the heart of the operation is in the Hunter Valley. Operating since 1991, Pepper Tree Wines has grown to be one of the most respected winemakers of the region. In 2009 it received recognition for this achievement and was awarded the Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year.

Before entering the cellar door at Pepper Tree, take the time to walk through the carefully cultivated gardens at the front of the property. Beyond the gardens is a country house that serves as the Pepper Tree Cellar Door.

Before you sample the broad range of wines, talk to the friendly staff to learn about the process. Pepper Tree Wines offers experiences tailored to both those with a nose for a good drop and novices keen to learn.

Sample merlot, pinot gris and chardonnay, or go straight for Pepper Tree’s specialties: semillon and shiraz. The Hunter Valley region is known for exquisite semillons. The Pepper Tree Shiraz is award-winning experts say its earthy tones are unmatched in the region.

Many of the grapes for these varieties are grown on site. Visitors have the opportunity to walk through the winery and see operations in action. Buy wines by the glass, bottle or case to enjoy over the course of your vacation. Try coffee made from the beans roasted at Pepper Tree’s on-site facility, Contango Espresso Roasters.

Pepper Tree Wines is located within the town of Pokolbin in the heart of the Hunter Valley. There is free on-site parking. You can also reach the winery on the Rover Coaches bus service from Sydney and other Hunter Valley towns. Pepper Tree Wines is open daily. No appointment is needed and there is no fee to visit the winery.
