"Modern hotel in a great central location, with helpful staff and clean rooms of a reasonable size for Japan. Unfortunately, our room had a very strong, unpleasant odour that persisted even with the windows open. After reading similar reviews, we decided against requesting a room change, fearing the issue might be the same elsewhere. It’s a shame, as otherwise the hotel was great, but the foul smell would make me reconsider staying here again."

Hotel Monterey Kyoto

Hotel Monterey Kyoto

8/10 Good
"We booked a room for three people but we only have two beds in our room. The hotel realized they had made a mistake the next day and the hotel manager came and apologized to us and offer to add an extra bed for the remainder of our stay, which we appreciated, but this did not fully address the inconvenience coused by their mistake. We believe the hotel should have offered some form of compensation, such as complimentary breakfast or a discount on our stay, to acknowledge the inconvenience. We expected better service and attention to detail, especially since our booking clearly stated that the room was for three people. We hope the hotel will improve its booking arrangements and customer service to prevent similar situations from happening to other guests. And also, we have communicating problem with the manager because he only speak Japanese. Although he tried to use a translation device but it doesn't help. He was a bit impatient after a few attempts. Overall the hotel is good, and we had a pleasant stay. The front desk staff is very friendly to help us checked into the hotel. The staff was very helpful for transporting our luggage to another hotel. And good service for storing our remainder luggage after checked out."
