"Great place. Communication is a little tough due to the language barrier. The gentleman they leave in charge overnight doesn’t know how to use the POS system so I was unable to buy a commemorative stamp for my stamp book before my super early check out (early flight). But I can honestly say I was amazed. The place is a Ghibli Studio film brought to life. As serene as you can imagine and the staff was super attentive. Truly a pleasure."

They arranged a private hike to a nearby waterfall, followed by a farm‑to‑table experience where we learned to identify local mountain vegetables, harvested them together, and cooked with traditional Japanese ingredients. We even learned how to make delicious local sauces from scratch. It was immersive, meaningful, and gave us a deeper understanding of the village and its culture. Another highlight was their unique half‑board concept. Instead of the usual ryokan-style meals, NIPPONIA partners with local restaurants — breakfast is delivered to your room, and dinner is served at different restaurants in the village. It’s such a smart setup because you get to enjoy a variety of local cuisines every night while supporting the community. Overall, NIPPONIA Miyama is more than a place to stay — it’s an experience that blends comfort, culture, and genuine hospitality. "Of the nine different hotels and ryokans we stayed at, this was our favorite place to stay. The location was gorgeous and the staff was the friendliest and most helpful we encountered. This location is up in the mountains so it doesn't have many tourists. We were able to to walk to three different nearby shrines/temples in about 2-3 hours and saw only 4 other people. This was the most relaxing part of our 2 week trip. The dinner and breakfast was exceptional but the staff and location is why we picked this hotel as our favorite place of our trip. I would absolutely stay here again. If you are looking for a place to relax in a mountain setting this is the place to stay!"

"If you are staying here it is awesome. Might be tricky getting there and getting food if not B&B but the place is amazing. My only downside was in my dietary requirements but the food that i could eat was delicious "

"Hideo and Yuka were wonderful hosts. Hideo is a great guide and very easy to talk to. The authentic Thatch home was both beautiful and comfortable. We enjoyed having coffee every morning while looking out the large windows at the cherry blossum trees. Very nice location away from all the people in Kyoto. Easy 1hr bus ride into Kyoto city. They have a friendly Golden Retriever and a French Bulldog to play with if you like dogs! The Fishmarket excursion was fun and unique with Hideo helping select fish, and Yuka preparing the food (She's a Michilen Star Sous Chef). Hideo also took us to see peaceful shrines, an ocean view atop a mountain and the scenic old Thatch village. Thank you Hideo and Yuka for the 5 Star stay and all the great memories! "

"If you looking for a quiet family oriented place for 1-2 nights outside Kyoto with a Ryokan and privacy. This is the place. Bring lots of games and books, nice walks along the river. It is not a large hotel and it is not easy to get to. But the right circumstances make this a perfect experience. "
