"First time in Kyoto and we had the best time in this traditional feeling Japanese ryoken. Staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. Their restaurant was traditional, inexpensive and very yummy. No complaints at all, would go back!!! Immaculate gardens around the property, good coffee shop on the parking lots, convenience store close by, close to a major bus route. Absolutely breathtaking neighborhood."
"The Koubai suite was wonderful. The outdoor bath is very private and peaceful. The bed was extremely comfortable and the private garden was lovely. This is my favourite room in Japan so far!"
"Our stay at the GrandWest Arashiyama was exceptional. The room was spacious and clean, reception was incredibly helpful, and the location was quiet and idyllic. During our stay we made the most of the amenities including free refreshments, a washing/drying machine, and a cute cafe situated just downstairs from the hotel entrance. Our stay here was easily one of the best parts of our trip to Japan and I highly encourage those visiting Arashiyama to consider this hotel!"
"We had 3 fantastic stays at the Riverte Kyoto Kamogawa. Very service minded staff that took good care of us from arriving to checkout. Room was spacious, nice and comfortable - and the hotel has a small rooftop terrace. Area is quiet and nice, but with a selection of amazing small restaurants close by. We will stay here again when we visit Kyoto. "
"A great ryokan with very friendly staff. The Japanese breakfast was the best we had in Japan! Our room was nice, clean, and had an amazing view. Great location! "
"The room was huge, brand new and beautiful with incredible amenities, but the service sets apart the Kamo from other hotels. The staff repeatedly went beyond expectations."
"This hotel is truly like stepping into another world. The service is impeccable, the room we had was gorgeous and superbly clean. We were lucky enough to have a private onsen with very clean water at the perfect temperature on a lovely little lanai.
All of the staff are very friendly and professional and the food is fantastic as well. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a touch of classic Japan in Kyoto!"
"We sayed in Moksa in september. Our shinkansen got significantly delayed, and my phone roaming stopped working, so I could not call and say we would arrive late for dinner. The staff were incredibly friendly, and were able to accomodate our dinner reservation. The food was delicious, the garden is a delight, and I wish we would have spent a few more days in this hotel. Loved it!"
"This is a family run ryokan business by the Kouda family. We booked a house / villa that is with attached bath and toilets. It is a very traditional house with renovated bath & toilet and owners are friendly and accommodating . Location is not very accessible if you don't drive but they fetched us from wachi station as the ryokan is located 30 mins from local train. Would strongly recommend if you want a local ryokan stay experience."

"If you want to experience traditional ryokan with fabulous meals, this is the place for you. It is a bit dated like visiting your relative’s house in the small town. It’s surrounded by maple forest, like living in a nice cabin. This is not modern hotel, if you set your expectation right, you will not be disappointed. All the stuffs are so kind and warm. They are great people dedicated to their jobs and it makes me want to visit Kyoto again."
"Our stay with Hideo and his family made our entire trip to Japan. Saying this is a vacation home does not do it justice. It’s more like staying with family. Family who take you around to see the sights, family who take you in and enjoys a meal with you, who treats your children like their own, shows you all the best things Japan has to offer. Is the place new, no, but it’s 200 years old. Is it amazing, yes! The area is so beautiful. Hideo and his wife and his wonderful dogs are incredible. The most gracious hosts. Hideo took us all over Kyoto to see the sites, took us to a fish market to buy and cook fresh fish for lunch, taught us how to make sushi, taught our kids how to make sukiyaki rights at the table. Hideo gifted us the most beautiful kimonos, took our son on the most incredible adventure, he will never forget and still talks about fondly today. I could go on and on about how amazing our stay was but I would run out of space before I ran out of wonderful things to say. Thank you so much for an incredible vacation and for making Japan everything we knew it was "
"Our crew enjoyed a delightful time in the Kyoto farmhouse. The hosts were most accommodating, Hideo-San is a man of many talents, and his wife is compassionate and very kind. The house itself had the necessary items for cooking and living comfortably. There is a very sweet café, which features kitties and delicious food just a few footsteps away. If we ever find ourselves in this part of the world again, we will certainly reach out and reconnect with these sweet landlords. "
