Learn all about the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church, at the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City. Explore art, furniture, tools, writings and other artifacts that document the church’s history since its inception in the early 1800s.

Discover the church’s early days in The Heavens Are Opened, which covers the work of Prophet Joseph Smith and other prominent figures. Examine over 200 artifacts, including quilts, clothing, photographs and more. See an animated history on a 240-degree screen in the First Vision Theater. Interactive exhibits, arranged chronologically, bring pivotal moments in the church’s history to life. Begin with the religious inspiration that led Joseph Smith to form the church. Trace early missionary work on an interactive map. Discover the construction of the famous Nauvoo Temple.

Check out the museum’s many other exhibits. In Presidents of the Church, learn about the former leaders of the church and see some of their prized possessions. Take your kids to I’ll Walk Where Jesus Walked: An Art Space for Children, featuring videos, art and other kid-friendly interactive exhibits. Unravel the artistic process of prominent Mormon painter Joseph Harry Anderson in A Legacy in the Making. See the religious text, the Book of Mormon, unfold before you through the paintings displayed throughout the museum.

Get a souvenir at the Museum Store. Browse through books, period clothing, collectibles, historical toys and more. Peruse the vast selection of reproduced art, featuring prominent Mormon artists through the years.

Find the Church History Museum in the heart of the city, adjacent to the church’s Temple Square. Visit any day of the week except Sunday. Note that it has shorter hours on Saturday. There is no entry fee. Reservations aren’t required, but pick up a ticket at the information desk to guarantee seating in the First Vision Theater.
