"It was good. The PIN code given to us initially was wrong and that was frustrating as we couldn’t get into the room. Thank god it was still working hours so we contacted the staff on telephone after a wait of 10minutes and got a new code immediately. Altogether it was a good place for the price. "

"Stayed in the hotel for a concert at Gilsenkirchen. The hotel’s own gated parking was very convenient, the room was quiet and very comfortable. In particular, staff on reception were very helpful and made our group feel very welcome. Would happily recommend for anyone looking for somewhere to stay within easy reach of Schalke stadium."

"The employees were wonderful, had good food and was very clean. One elevator was broken so there was only one for all guests. Hotel is right next to train station which is very convenient but the area is a bit dirty and there were many beer bottles scattered around (not in front of the hotel specifically, it was a nice hotel just not a great area!)"

"Hotel Essener Hof is very close to the Essen rail station. It has historic charm, with some drawbacks. Many rooms have no air conditioning - you must make a special request for an air-conditioned room, after booking on a third party site. Many rooms are on hallways that have steps to climb from the lift. Staff are friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant are closed; breakfast is a buffet with many traditional German food choices."
