Inase is built within an old house, I believe. It’s very unique and fun to step back in time and experience Japan in a deeper way than modern ryokans. I highly recommend it and will certainly stay there again.

Very unique

The Boston Hotel is literally steps just outside the JR Kusatsu train station. If traveling by train, the convenience really can't be beat. The room was very clean and well maintained, though small as with many Japanese rooms. Only 2 people can fit so we had 2 rooms for a family of 4 and it worked great. There were slippers and a sleeping gown to freely use and the selection of toiletries was surprisingly robust. The service was exceptional as we had no trouble speaking with the lobby...

Clean room,

Vessel Inns really growing on me. Rooms are usually bigger than most standard Japanese biz hotels with free 'proper' coffee in the lobby an added bonus. Breakfast at the downstairs bakery also good.

The hotel was clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful (which is a common theme in Japan). The hotel isn't located in Kyoto itself but is just a 10 minute train ride into the city. The great part is that it is located literally directly next to the station and there is a 24 hour family mart right next to the hotel also (so it's very convenient especially with a JR pass). Absolutely provides good bang form your buck. Overall, a great hotel.

A very nice view from the property! Very quiet, not as many tourists.

It was clean and gorgeous room with beautiful lake view. Staff was very nice and the Onsen was very good. I would love to come back again.

Convenient transportation, clean roon

I just used for a sleep and some desk works. WIFI capability is enough for my work. I can recommend this hotel. Access to the station is also wonderful.

Toyoko Hotels are usually great. They are clean, convenient, and affordable, and they tend to have lots of useful amenities or people who might have forgotten to bring something like a toothbrush or razor. This particular hotel has a really convenient location that's a short walk from several train stations and from a couple of very charming and pleasant shopping arcades. Close to Kusatsu station and plenty of dining. Very small, typical Japanese rooms that should not be shared except with spouse. Excellent breakfast and staff and very clean and well kept in a quiet location just 2 blocks from city center.

Finding an hotel in Kyoto in the Sakura season is challenging, besides expensive. The Reiah Hotel at Otsu turned out a great option, is not just nice and comfortable, it also has a good price and is only a block away from the JR Station, it takes like 20 mins to get to the Kyoto Station.
