Very disappointing
I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of this accommodation. On entering there was an unusual odour which I put down to cleaning agents. There was crumbs over the table and a large and small greasy smear over the TV screen, which caused me some concern. I checked the cutlery which looked like to could have done with a good clean, the oven had built up grease stains, the toaster had crumbs still inside, the toilet seat in the ensuite was loose and the beds were extremely hard. As I was travelling with my 85 year old mother I was concerned of the hygiene and the cleanliness of this apartment, especially during the current COVID issues. What completely concerned me was a review from travellers from the UK who had changes to their quarantine stay who stayed in this apartment in October.
I have had experience with accommodation establishments and the apartment is definitely not being cleaned properly after each guest stay. I left and advised the owner of the issues and requested a refund. With the current covid climate cleaning and hygiene is especially significant with holiday accommodation. There was no sanitiser and no cleaning or disinfectant product available for me to use anyway. The owner was quick to respond and advised I did not provide him with the opportunity to rectify the situation, however for this to be of standard the entire apartment would need to be thoroughly cleaned and we did not have 3 hours to spare to wait after a 5 hour drive to Perth.
The owner offered me 50% refund and I requested 80% allowing 20% to pay his cleaners so he was not out of pocket. He advised me he contacted Homeaway who advise he had the right to keep the full amount. I disagree with this, I was not provided with the standard of accommodation promised which was advertised as a private luxury apartment, the cleanliness of this apartment was poor by normal standards but during covid it was disgraceful. Interestingly the reviews about issues have been removed.
I am very disappointed with Homeaway’s response and the owner’s establishment and will not be recommending either.
