Beautiful views and close to main street where all the restaurants and shops are located. Love hearing all the church bells on the street. Easy access to the apartment. Very quiet neighborhood.
It was a beautiful property in walking distance to everything you'd want. The balcony and fire pit were by far my favorite feature. Awesome property all around.
Beautiful historic home right by Monument Park. Walking distance to restaurants. My favorite part was the outdoor deck. The fire place and veiws were amazing. Would stay again!
What a unique stay! The host was very communicative which made checkin/out easy. The rental has a unique layout that can be a little awkward at times, but the view and the neighborhood more than make up for any shortfalls.
We had a wonderful weekend getaway to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We love downtown Lynchburg with its rich history, outdoor activities, and great restaurants. The Gilliam House sits perched overlooking downtown and the surrounding mountains. An easy walk to everything we wanted to do. We absolutely loved the historic house with its quirky personality and tidy decor. Easy parking on a very quiet street was a plus!
This historic home that is nestled on a quiet street made our first trip to Lynchburg a great one. Conveniently located within walking distance to downtown, we were able to park and didn’t need to move our vehicle again until departure. Communication with the hosts and check-in was easy and fast on both accounts. If we return to Lynchburg we would definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay here. It was a HOT week but the ac worked terrific! Perfect location for all the things we wanted to see and places to eat. Everything was comfortable and the hosts checked in to make sure we were all set. Thank you!
My mother and I came down for a weekend trip and the place was absolutely perfect for us! Just down the street there was a farmers market and that same night, a festival! The location of the place was perfect walking distance from everything. The balcony was wonderful to sit on after a long day and I would highly recommend this place to anyone! The hosts were amazing at responding back to us quickly and overall just an amazing place!
We enjoyed our stay in an old historic home with a great balcony overlooking the city. The bed was comfy with nice crisp, white linens. Local yummy places to eat too!
This was a perfect place for our anniversary! Such a lovely view from the balcony. Walking distance from several shops and restaurants! We were nervous about the tenant downstairs but we never saw him once. He keeps to himself
The apartment is really lovely. My daughter was in awe of the grand old building and inside the owners have really thought of everything to make you comfortable. The view of the city off the deck is spectacular and we were treated with a great fireworks show when we stayed over Fourth of July weekend. It is definitely within walking distance to everything but the city is very hilly so be ready with good shoes!
Perfect downtown location in Lynchburg for a weekend getaway. It was a springboard location for us to visit Liberty University, the Virginia Safari, the Natural Bridge and going hiking. The place was exactly as described: quaint and with much character. Had the weather cooperated a bit more, we would have spent more time on the outside deck overlooking downtown as well as the distant mountains. The place had the necessary amenities and cooking supplies needed should you decide to cook or heat up a meal but there were too many great restaurants in nearby downtown that we could not pass up. Would definitely recommend this place to others if looking for a place in or near Lynchburg.
The property owners were great and the location was perfect for everything within walking distance. We had some minor issues and they worked with us quickly to resolve them and even offered a kindness.
Positives: We loved the location. Parking was handy on the street. When it wasn't raining the rooftop area has fantastic views. The large ceilings were lovely and overall everything worked well. No major issues overall.
Negatives: Please know this property has a tenant in the downstairs and the upper level is wide open. You must lock each door from the landing every time you leave. Towels were a bit musty smelling and the tub situation is a bit tight. Furniture and mattress were well worn and sagging. The sink and kitchen are very small so be prepared to get creative when washing dishes!
It was suitable for what we needed but could use a few little upgrades.
Pros: Gorgeous view from the balcony! We used the gas firepit twice, and it was so peaceful sitting outside by the fire. Cleanliness A It looked and smelled clean. Location A we felt safe walking the neighborhood, even at night. The house itself was a beautiful vintage, historical home. Crazy high 12-15ft ceilings. Rustic touches throughout. Cons: Other reviews mentioned that the bed is too soft - that is an understatement. The mattress is too soft, but also it has sinking spots, it's uneven (made my wife feel like she was tipping into me all night), and simply uncomfortable to the point we had trouble sleeping. The bathroom, while private, is accessed outside of the private suite via a semi-public hallway. The building is secure and you're the only guest on your floor, but the bathroom door is in the hallway with an open stairway beside you - For instance if you went to the bathroom in the middle of the night you probably should put some clothes on, and also you're leaving your locked suite. Lastly the bathroom is gorgeous and vintage, but it's a clawfoot tub with shower. While showering, due to the way the shower curtains hang creating a quite narrow space less than a foot wide, there is no time during your shower that you're not being touched on several sides by cold vinyl shower curtain - not the most relaxing shower setup. Even my tiny 5'2" 110lb wife complained about the shower curtain. Consensus - gorgeous but will not repeat due to bed & shower situation.
