horrible experience
It was a long way to get up to the hotel. Difficult to drag the luggages up the steps.. hotel lists wifi in room but it never worked they warned us before checking in that internet usually very weak..and I had to work on line.. we booked three days but only stayed one day because it was a long way to get to the hotel and we got there late there was no transportation to get out of that place. We tried to contact expedia for refund the two days we paid but did not stay but never heard from expedia instead their customer service replied to us in Japanese.

Awesome hotel for Ohara
The staff was super friendly. The dinner was a 5 course meal and I was very full after. Also lots for breakfast to keep me going until late afternoon. The room was awesome, had a nice garden view. 3 onsens to choose from, although it seems the outdoor onsen seem to like attracting a lot of bugs. Really enjoyable experience. The price was a bit steep, but definitely worth it for a day of awesome relaxation

Overall my wife and I really like the stay. The food was great and the hotel staff spoke very understandable English. It is a little out of the way, but that is kind of the point of these places. There is also not much to do around it since there are mostly temples and small restaurants, but again, getting away from it all is kind of the point of these places. It is a little bit of a walk to the bus stop but we did it with luggage and it was fine, pretty close. Only "Downsides" were: 1) No ping pong table. 2) No Ice cream vending machine (or ice cream sales period).

4/5 Good

Peaceful Escape
This ryokan was an excellent stay in the area - convenient walking distance to a number of shrines and temples nearby, quiet relaxing location and excellent service. I discovered that it was not easy to locate in the dark and in the rain without assistance, as the shops in the area close down and activity diminishes. It was somewhat expensive, but overall it was a great experience.
