"I thought a shukubo would be a very simple minimalist accommodation but it was a luxurious stay. A pleasant surprise.
Great staff and service, beautiful gardens, wonderful shojin meals, relaxing bath after our long hike, and a morning service in the main hall.
It was a perfect experience"

Loved this property and onsen! After spending the last two weeks walking all over Tokyo this was a wonderful way to relax! Part of the onsen is outside and overlooks the water. The harbor and Chinatown make it a great area to explore.

The hotel is so cute very small only 1 room per floor but the staff and everyone was so top notch. They welcome you with champagne. It was a nice luxury hotel.

After staying down the hill in Kobe for a week, Arima was a magical retreat. The hotel has multiple private bathing rooms, each with two tubs, different waters in each tub, and traditional onsen squat showers.
The rooms were reasonably sized with somewhat hard but comfortable beds. A very Japanese experience.

We had enjoyed a Kaiseki dinner here with a group in May, 2010, and wanted to come back to Kyoto and spend more time. We stayed in the Hanare (the Satsuki Cottage, a separate, traditional Japanese building) for five nights. You sleep on futons, they fill up the wood bath every afternoon, and you can wear your Yukata to dinner. They fed us a Kaiseki (chef's whim) breakfast each morning and a Kaiseki dinner each evening. Every meal was different! The staff were incredibly attentive and polite, and...

The owner Tomi is extremely attentive and will provide you with a multitude of services within and around the guest house. The traditional Japanese rooms are located on the second floor up a VERY STEEP set of stairs, keep that in mind for luggage and beverages. The onsen around the corner is super nice and you’re nearby to both JR station and local subways.
Tomi also cooks egg breakfast sandwiches daily 7-9 am, has tea, coffee, and cold water/electric kettle available anytime.

This is an excellent, upscale property that really takes good care of guests. The room we stayed in was very large, especially compared to normal Japanese hotels. The hot spring is well maintained, and the dinner was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Okay, I'm old...71...and most of the people here were in their 20's and 30's. I stayed here a week I slept well and enjoyed the experience. If I didn't practice yoga, I wouldn't have been able to get dressed in the pod. lol The people were nice, everything was clean and well maintained. I would stay here again if I was solo traveling and needed a place for a few days.

the stay is just so relaxing and zen like and it is less than 10 mins walk to Todaiji including the deer park. Kintetsu Nara train station is about 10 mins away and plenty of shops/restaurants/cafes to check out. Highly recommend this hotel. Service is just outstanding.
There are two onsens - one upstairs and another one at the ground floor.
The breakfast is just so filling but healthy.

Selected to stay after drinking in Gion area with my KYOTO friends.
The fee would be reasonable even for young people. (I'm in 50s.)
The master is friendly and guests are also.
I had some talking time with other foreign guests, which was so interesting and happy time.
The room is just that of a modest house and you can hear every noises of the next room. So not suitable for business use. For those who can even enjoy such environments.
