The John Martin Heritage Trail passes right by the door or visit the national Trust site of Allen Banks and Staward Gorge, a Victorian garden in a gorge of the River Allen cutting through beautiful woodland. For those seeking adventure, try wild water swimming on the River Allen, a 20-minute walk. The Northumberland National Park is a 20 minute drive, here you can walk Hadrian’s Wall and visit the Roman settlements, House steads Roman Fort, Vindolanda and the Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre.
