"The staff speak English or Mandarin hence communication was a breeze for me. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. The location of the ryokan is within walking distance to the town and close to the train station. Hotel provides a bus shuttle to the train station. From the train station to the hotel, there is also a complimentary ride. I had a very pleasant stay at the ryokan and highly recommend it. "

"Very nice ryokan. We loved the Japanese clothes provided, and dressing for meals. The onsen was excellent (thought we wish it stayed open one more hour at night). Japanese breakfast was excellent. Convenient to the train station (a couple of blocks) and all of the Takayama attractions (walking, by bus, or by taxi). This is a justifiably difficult reservation to obtain during peak season. "

However some of the things that were unexpected are the following: you are unable to wear shoes (only socks throughout the hotel so if another guest spills something on the floor (which is what happened) it can be unpleasant.
