Akureyri is a lively town, it is Iceland's second largest city, after the greater Reykjavík area. In fact, you can't really call it a city, as the inhabitants are only around 20 thousand, but it's often referred to as "the capital of the North". There are plenty of things to do for such a small place, but it is also the gateway to the spectacular beauty of the north, most notably the area surrounding Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss waterfall, Godafoss waterfall and Ásbyrgi canyon. Whale watching tours in the area are a nice option. We recommend spending at least a day in the town itself but then venture out and explore the nearby beautiful locations.
Akureyri is a known winter paradise in Iceland. The ski slopes in the mountain hills above the town are very popular, by the locals and many guests from other parts Iceland visit Akureyri to enjoy the skiing facilities and enjoy a stay in the town. After a day of skiing, it's perfect to relax in an outdoor hut tub in the local swimming pool, under the Northern lights.
We want you to feel at home in our house and to be able to explore and enjoy everything Akureyri has to offer. Guests are of course welcome to contact us before and during your trip if any information is needed about the apartment, the neighbourhood or Iceland in general. We will always try our best to assist.
