We are 3 generations of family, ages 6-81. We had a wonderful stay. Enough room for everyone in and out of the Lodge. The Pier Cafe is a great addition as there really isn’t anything else close. Inversnaid is lovely for different scenery and the Bunk House had the best food we had in Scotland. Truly amazing dinner and staff.
It is a remote area with lots of trekkers/backpackers. If you love the outdoors, and amazing scenery, it’s paradise. If you want to do a lot of touring, you will have to brave the 1 lane road every time, in and out. It is not for the faint of heart. The key to those roads, if you aren’t familiar, is to take your time and stay towards the center. Too far to the outside, you will pop a tire (as we did day 1). Too fast and you can’t adjust without blowing a sidewall. Go slowly around blind turns and switchbacks and seriously, take your time. After the first run of the road, you will feel better on the drive.
Take time not enjoy the view, the walks, the natural falls. The boat from Inversnaid to Tarbet and beyond is very nice and a little easier than Stronachlachar since that has only 2 stops at the pier. Loch Lomond has multiple boats and stops to goose from. All in all, my 12 & 14 year olds said it was the best vacation we’ve had. Everyone loved the laid back pace and beautiful views, and the girls even swam almost daily. But yeah- it’s COLD! :)
