"As a North American traveler, you need to make sure you select a western room that has a shower. Some of the rooms do not have a shower and you need to use the baths. This is a problem if you have a morning flight as the bath not open early enough. It is also a problem if you think you can shower in your own room."

"The hotel is a Japanese style resort by the Lake, ("traditional" and "old world style"; We had to take off our shoes at the hotel entrance). Yet it had all the modern amenities expected these days. My wife and I stayed in the Premier Suite recently. It was very spacious and had a private Onsen. The living room had a lovely view of the tall trees lining the Lake, and 2 large massage arm chairs to enjoy the sunset view. Dinner was served in the Suite, kaiseki style, on the large dining table. Breakfast was served in a "private" dining area in the adjoining restaurant, and there was a view of the garden area in front of the Lake. The bathroom was large, and had a fantastic shower (but no bathtub). We enjoyed walking around the lovely neighbouring lakeside area and looking at the Volcano mountains. Hotel staff were always present, polite and helpful - Overall, a most pleasant stay ! "
