We stayed the first weekend in May, 2022. The cabin is in the perfect spot as a base for day hiking the upper SHT sections with two cars. That was our plan but we will have to try again, the trail was too muddy. We did enjoy a few of the other trails in the area though. Be careful on the icy and soft forest roads!!!
The cabin stays really warm, especially if you cook with the stove. Great for cooler temperatures, not sure how it would feel in the heat of summer, it has no AC.
The Sauna was nice. It got warm, but not steamy for us. Our fire skills are not the best.
I really enjoyed the simplicity of everything and the use of solar power for the lights inside the cabin!
If you do not like the quiet 100% of the time, download a movie(s) and/or bring some music.
Verizon doesn’t get service north of Grand Marais. I did get one bar just down from Judge CR Magney State Park, on road 59. Enough to call home to check in.
